Mechanical Engineering Intern (School Year)

Mission of the Role

This internship will be aprox. 6 months in length through the school year. Working 20 hours on site at our Minneapolis Campus.

An intern at SICK is involved in the day-to-day activities within the business through immersion into different projects. The intern will have the opportunity to work within a team to gain knowledge and first-hand experience of what a career in this industry would be like.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the department by studying engineering sketches, specifications, and supporting documents.
  • Design, detail, document, and verify mechanical/electrical/electronic parts, subassemblies, assemblies, or systems configurations of equipment.
  • Drawing multiple views, depicting relationship of components and parts including identifying dimensions, angles, curvatures, tolerance, and materials.
  • Work on a chosen project with the assistance of the manager, mentor, and team.
  • Work closely with the manager and a selected mentor to understand systems, processes, and key information.
  • Actively seek out information to learn how SICK operates as a business (products, departments, etc.).
  • Interface with other departments and interns to gain knowledge of the business, products, positions and more.
  • Provide innovative recommendations on how SICK can improve.
  • Complete a final presentation at the close of the internship that outlines the involved project(s) and knowledge gained.
  • Provide feedback on the internship experience at the close of the internship.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned or required by management.

Key Qualifications

  • Experience: 0 – 2 years experience
  • Education: Must be enrolled in an accredited university/college program studying Engineering.
  • Certifications:  Not Required
  • Position-specific Qualifications:
    • Basic knowledge of mechanical designer software like Solidworks.
    • Self-directed and able to work without supervision.
    • Energetic and eager to tackle new projects and ideas.
  • Computer/Technological: Professional competence with Microsoft Office
  • Language: Professional written and spoken fluency in English required.
  • Schedule: Generally 20 hours a week, Monday – Friday.
  • General Working Conditions: Be able to usually work in an office environment.
  • Travel: Not Required
  • Work Status: Legally permitted to work in the country you are applying and willing to undergo an employment background check.

Compensation

The base salary is one part of our Total Rewards package and is determined within a range.  The starting base salary range for this position is listed below; the actual starting salary will be based on a variety of factors including experience, skill set, education, performance, licenses/certifications, business needs and other job-related factors, as permitted by law.

  • Starting Base Annual Salary Range:  $24 - $28
