Job Description
Internship / Thesis: Evaluating AI‑Ready Industrial PCs for Logistics
Winter Semester 2026/27 – Limited to 5-6 months
Help shaping the future of industrial sizing systems with us: As part of our R&D team, you’ll work to enable the next generation of our logistics sensor systems. Your role: Conducting a thorough analysis of current and future hardware platforms that enable real-time AI performance in industrial environments. In doing so, you’ll lay the groundwork for the hardware strategy of our upcoming product generations.
YOUR TASKS:
- Analysis of existing system variants: Evaluating current hardware architectures and determining current resource requirements.
- Research on AI inference in industrial environments: Investigating modern CPU, GPU, and AI accelerator technologies in terms of real-time capability, robustness, and industrial requirements.
- Deriving future hardware requirements: Developing robust recommendations for future industrial PC platforms based on your analyses.
- Focus: Real-time AI on embedded accelerators: Verifying whether existing models can run entirely on AI accelerators—including evaluation of latency and throughput.
- Evaluation of cost-optimized hardware solutions: Comparison of different platforms in terms of performance, robustness, and budget constraints.
- Structured documentation: Creation of clear and well-founded reports that support future decisions in R&D and procurement.
YOUR PROFILE:
- Degree in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, business informatics, or a related field.
- Interest in hardware-software co-design, embedded systems, or performance analysis.
- Initial practical experience working with computer hardware.
- Programming skills in Python or a similar programming language.
- Basic understanding of AI, machine learning, or edge computing (preferred: knowledge of inference engines or embedded hardware).
- Independent, structured, and reliable work ethic.
- Good written and spoken English skills.
