Job Description
Mandatory Internship / Thesis: Process Development in Optical Metrology

Winter semester 2026/2027 – fixed term of 3 months

 

YOUR TASKS:

  • Independently familiarize yourself with the state of the art in the measurement of optical components
  • Plan, carry out, optimize, and document replication processes (negative impressions) of optical components
  • Perform metrological analysis of the replicas, e.g., using confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM)
  • Compare and evaluate original and replicated measurements in terms of accuracy, resolution, and reproducibility
  • Investigate influencing factors such as material properties, structure sizes, and surface roughness
  • Assess the limitations and potential of the method for different optical components
  • Analyze, present, and document results in a structured manner

 

YOUR PROFILE:

  • Enrolled in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Chemistry, Process Engineering, Microsystems Engineering, Physics, or a comparable scientific or engineering field
  • Interest in experimental laboratory work
  • Basic understanding of measurement and analysis methods, with an interest in optical metrology
  • Careful, structured, and independent way of working
  • Strong analytical thinking skills
  • Good command of English
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Open-minded and reliable personality
